Prof. DA Sinclair (from Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA) has published a paper in the Journal Cell stating that “Declining NAD+ Induces a Pseudohypoxic State Disrupting Nuclear-Mitochondrial Communication during Aging.” This study suggests that declining NAD+ levels accelarates ageing, while increasing NAD+ levels reverses ageing. In connection with this finding, Dr L Boominathan, Director-cum-chief scientist of GBMD, reports that: Stress-accelerated ageing: Tumor suppressor p53 contributes to the decline in mitochondrial function with age via induction of its target gene. This finding suggests that stress induced p53 decreases NAD+ levels via up regulation of its target gene.
