Prof. Dr. Michlewski G and his co-workers from University of Edinburgh, King’s Buildings, Edinburgh EH9 3JR, UK have reported recently in the prestigious journal Nat Commun. (April 11, 2014) that Lin28a regulates neuronal differentiation and controls miR-9 production.  

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports that: Insights into molecular mechanisms of tumorigenesis: The induced pluripotent stem cell gene Lin-28 suppresses the expression of tumor suppressor p53 by inducing the degradation of its target gene. This data may suggest that Lin-28that is often overexpressed in human cancer cells—suppresses the expression of major tumor suppressor p53 and its target genes, thereby promoting cancer.
