  • A study from the Department of Neurology, Charité-Universitaetsmedizin Berlin, Berlin, Germany has reported that “An unconventional role for miRNA: let-7 activates Toll-like receptor 7 and causes neurodegeneration.
  • This study was published in the 15 June 2012 Nature Neuroscience by Prof. Lehnardt SLehmann and others from the Department of Neurology, Charité-Universitaetsmedizin Berlin, Berlin, Germany.
  • On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports here that: Neutralizing Neurotoxic miRNA to protect the brain from neurodegenerative diseases, multiple sclerosis and stroke : The reprogramming and stem cell gene Lin-28 prevents neurotoxicity via down regulation of its target gene. This study suggests that Lin-28, by suppressing the expression of its target gene, it could neutralize neurotoxicity.  Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations containing “Lin-28 or Lin-28 activating small molecules” can be used to neutralize neurotoxicity
