A study from Section on Integrative Physiology-Metabolism, Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.  has reported that “Altered miRNA processing disrupts brown/white adipocyte determination and associates with lipodystrophy.

This study was published in the June 1, 2014 Journal of Clinical Investigation (JCI) [I.F >15] by Prof. C. Ronald Kahn, Mori MM and others from Integrative Physiology-Metabolism, Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA “

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports here that: Therapeutic insights  into the regulation of brown/white adipocyte determination: Tumor suppressor miRNA Let-7 promotes  lipodystrophy via down regulation of its target gene.  This study may suggest that Let-7, by down regulating its target gene, it may promote insulin resistance and lipodystrophy. Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations encompassing AntagomiR-Let-7 or Let-7 suppressors”  can be used in the treatment of lipodystrophy and insulin resistance.
