A study from Watson School of Biological Sciences shows that Mutant p53 Drives Pancreatic Cancer Metastasis through Cell-Autonomous PDGF Receptor β Signaling. This study was published in the April 10, 2014 Cell by Prof. Dr Scott Lowe, Watson School of Biological Sciences, CSHL, New York; Prof. Dr Carol Prives, Department of Biological Sciences, Columbia University, New York; and others.

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports here that: Anti-miRNA based treatment for Metastatic Pancreatic/intestine/ovarian Cancer: Snail1/SNAI1  increases the expression of PDGF Receptor β via down regulation of its target geneThis study suggests that Snail1/SNAI1, by suppressing the expression of  its target gene, it could inhibit the invasion of mutant p53 expressing human cancers. Given that tumor suppressor p53 is mutated in about 50% of different human cancers, this study suggests, for the first time, a therapeutic strategy as to how mutant p53 expressing human cancers can be cured. Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations encompassing “Snail1/SNAI1 suppressors” can be used to treat Metastatic Pancreatic/intestine/ovarian Cancer
