A study from the Section on Integrative Physiology-Metabolism, Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.  has reported that “Altered miRNA processing disrupts brown/white adipocyte determination and associates with lipodystrophy.”

This study was published in the June 1, 2014 Journal of Clinical Investigation (JCI) [I.F >15] by Prof. C. Ronald Kahn, Mori AM and others from the Integrative Physiology-Metabolism, Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA “

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports here that: Therapeutic insights into the regulation of brown/white adipocyte determination: MiRNA-103 promotes  lipodystrophy via down regulation of its target gene. This study suggests that miR-103, by suppressing the expression of its target gene, it could promote insulin resistance and lipodystrophy. Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations encompassing “MiR-103 suppressors”  can be used to treat lipodystrophy and insulin resistance.
