Significance: This study suggests that 17α-E2by down regulating the expression of its target gene, it  may increase the levels of HbF.  Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing 17α-E2 or its analogues” may be used to treat: (1) Sickle cell disease ;  (2) β-thalassemiasand (3) disease conditions that has lower levels of HbF
