Significance:  It has been shown that accumulation of excessive renal reactive oxygen  species (ROS) raises blood pressure. This study suggests, for the first time, Resveratrol, by increasing the expression of its target gene,  it may decrease the levels of ROS. Thereby, it may function as an antihypertensive agent. Because of its longevity-promoting, and insulin-sensitizing qualities, Resveratrol has an added advantage as an hypertensive agent. Based on this, physicians/clinicians may consider treating hypertensive patients with Resveratrol. Together, pharmacological formulations encompassing Resveratrol or its analogues” can be used to treat hypertension.
