Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that TWEAK, by decreasing the expression of its target gene, it may increase the number of adult pancreatic progenitors and mediate islet regenerationThereby, it may increase the insulin sensitivity of cellular tissues.  Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “TWEAK  activators”  can be used to treat DM.
