A recent study from the From the Centre for Cancer Biology, an Alliance between SA Pathology and University of South Australia, Adelaide, South Australia 5000, Australia. Discipline of Biochemistry, School of Molecular and Biomedical Science, The University of Adelaide, Adelaide, South Australia 5005, Australia. Department of Medicine, The University of Adelaide, Adelaide, South Australia 5005, Australia shows that “The tyrosine phosphatase PTPN14 (Pez) inhibits metastasis by altering protein trafficking.” This study was published in the 17  February 2015 issue of the Journal “Science Signal” by ProfGoodall YBelle L and others.

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports that: Natural product-based Antimetastasis therapy: EF24 (curcumin analog) inhibits invasion and metastasis by altering protein trafficking via up regulation of tumor suppressor PTPN14 (Pez). This study suggests, for the first time, that EF24, by decreasing the expression of its target gene, it may: (1) increase the expression of tumor suppressor PTPN14 (Pez), (2) decrease abundance of growth-promoting receptors at the cell surface; (3) decrease intracellular protein trafficking; and (4) inhibit invasion and metastasis. Together, pharmacological formulations encompassing “EF24 or its analogues” may be used to inhibit the progression of invasive human tumors.
