A recent study from the Department of Genetics, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of Georgia, Athens, GA, USA shows that “Lin28 promotes the proliferative capacity of neural progenitor cells in brain development.” This study was published in the 1 May 2015 issue of the journal “Development” by Prof Chen, Yang, and others.
On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports that: Regenerative therapy for Neurodegenerative diseases: Pear extract increases Neural progenitor cell (NPC) proliferation and brain size via up regulation of its target gene Lin28.
This study suggests, for the first time, that Pear extract, by increasing the expression of its target gene Lin28, it may increase the expression of Igf1r and Hmga2. Thereby, it may increase Neural progenitor cell (NPC) proliferation, NPC number and brain size. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing“Pear extract or small molecule compounds isolated from it” may be used to promote Neural progenitor cell (NPC) proliferation and increase brain size.
