Natural product-based therapy for Metastatic cancers: Hyperoside, isolated from Drosera rotundifolia, and Common self-heal, among others, increases the expression of TIMP3 and inhibits migration, invasion and metastasis of cancer cells via down regulation of its target gene, 2/March/2017, 10.53 am

Natural product-derived therapy for EVI-1-Overexpressing Acute Myeloid Leukemia: Tanshinone IIA (TSN), isolated from Salvia miltiorrhiza, decreases the expression of MECOM/EVI-1 and its down target genes, including CKMT-1, alters Arginine-creatine metabolism, inhibits mitochondrial respiration, depletes ATP levels, and promotes regression of EVI-1-overexpressing AML via up regulation of its target gene, 1/March/2017, 7.07 pm

Anti-telomerase cancer therapy: Ginkgolic acid C 17:1 (GAC 17:1), isolated from Ginkgo biloba leaves, suppresses the expression of Tripeptidyl Peptidase 1 (TPP1) and the cellular immortality gene telomerase and inhibits cancer progression via down-regulation of it target gene, 2/March/2017, 6.51 pm

Research findings to Therapeutic opportunity:

A number of studies suggest that Hyperoside functions as an anticancer agent. However, the mechanism of action is far from clear.

This study suggests that Hyperoside, by decreasing the expression of its target genes, it may increase the expression of metastasis suppressor TIMP3 (Tissue inhibitor of metallopeptidase inhibitor-3) (figs. 1-4).

Thereby, it may inhibit migration, invasion and metastasis of cancer cells. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Hyperoside or its analogues either alone or in combination with other anticancer drugs” may be used to inhibit the progression of invasive tumors.
