This study suggests that Ampelopsin [AMP], by increasing the expression of of its target genes, it may: (1) increase the expression of NAMPT; (2) increase Sirtuins expression; (3) enhance neural stem cells; (4) promote neural functional recovery; (5) activate neuronal survival pathway; (6) promote post-ischemic regeneration after stroke; and (7) attenuate neurological deficits (Fig.1)

Figure 2. The chemical structure of Ampelopsin (AMP). AMP can be isolated from”Mayeam” . The leaves/stems of Mayeam which is used to make herbal tea generally known as Tujia God/heaven tea. The average lifespan of those who consume this tea regularly is 89 years; and this could perhaps be attributed to its ability, in part, to attenuate stroke and neurological deficits.

Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations encompassing Ampelopsin [AMP]/Dihydromyricetin [DHM] or its analogues either alone or in combination with other drugs” may be used to treat patients suffering from stroke and neurological deficits.
