Natural product-derived Life-extension therapy: Ampelopsin [AMP; also called dihydromyricetin (DHM)], a flavonoid mainly found in Ampelopsis grossedentata (commonly known as Mayeam), inhibits the expression of Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) and extends mammalian life span, 9/May/2017, 8.54 am

Natural product therapy for glucose homeostasis and TIIDM: Puerarin, isolated from Pueraria Montana (Kutzu), increases Pax6 and insulin expression, decreases the levels of glucagon, ghrelin and Somatostatin, reduces metabolic stress, improves insulin sensitivity, promotes glucose homeostasis and prevents progression to TIIDM via down regulation of its target gene, 9/May/2017, 1.42 pm

What they say:

A study from the Institute of Healthy Ageing, Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology, Department of Medicine, University College London, London WC1E 6JJ, UK shows that “Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 signaling regulates mammalian life span.” This study was published in the 2 October 2009 issue of the Journal “Science” (I.F: 31.477 ) by Prof Dominic J. Withers, Dr. Selman C and others.

What we say

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMDreports, for the first time, that: Natural product-derived Life-extension therapy: Ampelopsin [AMP; also called dihydromyricetin (DHM)], a flavonoid mainly found in Ampelopsis grossedentata (commonly known as Mayeam), inhibits the expression of Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) and extends mammalian life span

Research findings to Therapeutic opportunity:

Ampelopsin [AMP], by  increasing  the expression of its target gene, it may suppress Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) expression. Thereby, it may promote: (1) resistance to bone, immune, and motor dysfunction; (2) insulin sensitivity; and (3) longevity (fig. 1).

Figure 1. Mechanistic insight into how Ampelopsin [AMP] may extend lifespan. Ampelopsin [AMP] may promote longevity by suppressing the expression of p70 S6 kInase

Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing Ampelopsin [AMP] or its analogs either alone or in combination with any of the known longevity-promoting compound(s) may be used to extend the lifespan of an individual (figs. 1-2).

Figure 2. Ampelopsis Grossedentata. The Ampelopsis Grossedentata (Mayeam) constituent Ampelopsin (AMP) functions as a longevity promoting agent. AMP can be isolated from”Mayeam” . The leaves and stems of Mayeam are used to make a herbal tea generally known as Tujia God/heaven tea. The average lifespan of those who consume this tea regularly is 89 years; and this could perhaps be attributed to its insulin- secreting and neuroprotective property.
