What they say:

A study from the Institute of Healthy Ageing, Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology, Department of Medicine, University College London, London WC1E 6JJ, UK shows that “Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 signaling regulates mammalian life span.” This study was published, in the 2 October 2009 issue of the Journal “Science” (I.F: 31.477 ),  by Prof. Dominic J. Withers, Dr. Selman C and others.

What we say:

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports, for the first time, that: Milk product-based Life-extension therapy: Lactoferrin, a globular protein found abundantly in biological fluids, inhibits the expression of Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) and extends mammalian life span by regulating the expression of its target genes

Research findings to Therapeutic opportunity:

This study suggests, for the first time, a milk product-based Lifespan-extension therapy.

Figure 1. Mechanistic insight into how Lactoferrin may extend lifespan. Lactoferrin may promote longevity by suppressing the expression of p70 S6 kInase; and by regulating the expression of a number of other genes.

Figure 2. Lactoferrin  functions as a longevity-promoter through down regulation of p70S6 Kinase.

Lactoferrin, by  regulating  the expression of its target gene, it may suppress Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) expression. Thereby, it may promote: (1) resistance to bone, immune, and motor dysfunction; (2) insulin sensitivity; and (3) longevity (fig. 1).

Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing lactoferrin or its activators, either alone or in combination with any of the known longevity-promoting compound(s),” may be used to extend the lifespan of an individual (fig. 2).
