What they say:
A study from the Institute of Healthy Ageing, Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology, Department of Medicine, University College London, London WC1E 6JJ, UK shows that “Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 signaling regulates mammalian life span.” This study was published, in the 2 October 2009 issue of the Journal “Science” (I.F: 31.477 ), by Prof Dominic J. Withers, Dr. Selman C, and others.
What we say:
On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports, for the first time, that: Consuming olive oil may prolong your lifespan and healthspan: Oleic acid, one of the components of Olive oil, inhibits the expression of Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) and extends mammalian lifespan, via upregulation of its target gene
Research findings to Therapeutic opportunity:
Oleic acid, by increasing the expression of its target gene, it may suppress ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) expression. Thereby, it may promote: (1) resistance to the bone, immune, and motor dysfunction; (2) insulin sensitivity; and (3) longevity (fig. 1).
Figure 1. Mechanistic insight into how Oleic acid may extend lifespan. 17α-Ethinyl Estradiol (EE) inhibits p70 S6 kinase expression and increases the expression of other longevity- promoting genes.
Figure 2. The chemical structure of Oleic acid. Oleic acid functions as a longevity promoting agent through down-regulation of p70S6 kinase

Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Oleic acid or its analogs, either alone or in combination with any of the known longevity-promoting compound(s),“ may be used to extend the lifespan of an individual (fig. 2).
