Oats as a longevity-promoting agent: Avenanthramide A, derived from Oats, inhibits the expression of Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) and extends mammalian life span, via up regulation of its target gene, 14/April/2019, 3.49 pm

Embryo-derived peptide may aid in the treatment of regenerative muscle atrophy: Synthetic preimplantation factor (sPIF) increases the expression of IGF-1, PI3K(p85a) and B-Myb, decreases the expression of tumor suppressors, promotes regeneration of muscle cells, and reverses muscle atrophy via up regulation of its target gene, 14/April/2019, 3.25 pm

What they say?

A study from the Institute of Healthy Ageing, Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology, Department of Medicine, University College London, London WC1E 6JJ, UK shows that “Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 signaling regulates mammalian life span.” This study was published, in the 2 October 2009 issue of the Journal “Science” (I.F: 31.477 ), by Prof Dominic J. Withers, Dr. Selman C and others.

What we say

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMDreports, for the first time, that: Oats as a longevity-promoting agent: Avenanthramide A, derived from Oats, inhibits the expression of Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) and extends mammalian life span, via up regulation of its target gene

Research findings to Therapeutic opportunity:

This study suggests, for the first time, that Oats-derived compund Avenanthramide A function as a longevity-promoting agent. Avenanthramide A, by  increasing  the expression of its target gene, it may suppress Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) expression. Thereby, it may promote: (1) resistance to bone, immune, and motor dysfunction; (2) insulin sensitivity; and (3) longevity (fig. 1).

Figure 1. Mechanistic insight into how Avenanthramide A may extend lifespan. Avenanthramide A inhibits p70 S6 kInase expression and increases the expression of other longevity- promoting genes

Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Avenanthramide A or its analogues,  either alone or in combination with any of the known longevity-promoting compound(s), may be used to extend the lifespan of an individual (fig. 1). Together, this study suggests, for the first time, that consuming oats regularly may extend health and life span.
