From research findings to Therapeutic Opportunity: 

This study suggests, for the first time, with detailed mechanistic insights, Cocos nucifera, commonly known as Coconut, and its component Lauric acid or dodecanoic acid, which makes up to 48 to 50% of coconut oil, may extend lifespan of humans.  Lauric acid or dodecanoic acid, by regulating the expression of its target gene, it may suppress Ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (p70S6 Kinase) expression. Thereby, it may promote: (1) resistance to bone, immune, and motor dysfunction; (2) insulin sensitivity; and (3) longevity(fig. 1).
