Prof. Harald Esterbauer, Alexander Jais and others, from Vienna, Austria, has reported recently in the July 3, 2014 Cell (I.F: 31.957) that “Heme Oxygenase-1 Drives Metaflammation and Insulin Resistance in Mouse and Man.”
On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports that: MiRNAs-based treatment for inflammation-mediated insulin resistance and steatosis: MiRNA-378 decreases metabolic inflammation and insulin resistance via down regulation of its target gene. This study may suggest that miRNA-378, by down regulating its target gene, it may suppress metabolic inflammation and promote insulin sensitivity. Furthermore, it may suppress secondary diseases such as steatosis and liver toxicity. Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations containing “miRNA-378 or its activators” can be used in the treatment of inflammation-mediated insulin resistance, steatosis and liver toxicity.
