A recent study from the Laboratory of Molecular Signaling, University of California Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, USA shows that “Wnt4 signaling prevents skeletal aging and inflammation by inhibiting nuclear factor-κB.”

This study was published in the August 10, 2014 issue of Nature Medicine (The number 1 journal in Medicine with an IF of ~35) by Prof. Wang, Yu and others from the Laboratory of Molecular Signaling, University of California Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, USA.

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMDreports here that: Anti-miRNA based therapeutic strategies that target osteoporosis and skeletal ageing: Stress responsive protein p53 promotes osteoporosis and skeletal ageing by inhibiting the Wnt4 pathway This study suggests, for the first time, that p53, by up regulating its target genes, it may suppress the expression of Wnt4 and its downstream components. Thereby, it may accelerate bone loss in osteoporosis; and augment skeletal ageing. Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations encompassing “p53 inhibitor or compounds that suppress the expression of p53 target gene may be used to treat osteoporosis and ageing-associated skeletal disorders.
