Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that SMAD7, by decreasing the expression of its target gene,  it may rescue pulmonary arterial hypertension. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “SMAD7 activators” may be used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension.
