Citation: Boominathan, Natural product-based therapy for Metastatic tumors: I3C, a compound found in Broccoli & Brussels, suppresses the expression of PD-1, a suppressor of activation of T-cells, and activates the immune system via down regulation of its target gene, 26/February/2015, 12.45 am, Genome-2-Bio-Medicine Discovery center (GBMD), http://genomediscovery.org
Significance: It has recently been shown that blocking PD-1 with antibodies, one could make tumors shrink. This study suggests, for the first time, that I3C, by suppressing the expression of its target gene, it may decrease the expression of PD-1. Thereby, it may activate the immune system to inhibit tumor progression. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “I3C or its analogues” may be used to inhibit the progression of tumors.
