A recent study from the Institute for Cardiovascular Regeneration, Centre of Molecular Medicine, Frankfurt, Germany shows that “MicroRNA-34a regulates cardiac ageing and function.” This study was published in the 7 March 2013 issue of Nature [I.F: >42] by Prof Dimmler, Boon, and others.
On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports that: An Asprin a day will protect you from Myocardial Infarction: Asprin (acetyl salicylic acid) improves myocardial function after myocardial infarction via up regulation of PNUTS/PPP1R10 (Serine/threonine-protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunit 10). It has been shown earlier that taking low doses of asprin can protect one from myocaridal diseases. However, the detailed mechanistic insight into how asprin protects one from myocaridal diseases is far from clear. This study suggests, for the first time, that asprin, by increasing the expression of PNUTS/PPP1R10, it may: (1) inhibit DNA damage responses, (2) inhibit telomere shortening; and (3) promote cardimyocyte survival. Therefore, by taking low doses of asprin, one may protect himself/herself from ageing-associated decline in cardiac function. Together, this study suggests, for the first time, with a detailed mechanistic insight, that pharmacological formulations encompassing “asprin or its analogues” may be used to improve cardiac function after myocardial infarction. Based on this finding, Physicians may consider encouraging their cardiac patients to consume limited amount of asprin, to protect themselves from heart diseases.
