Citation: Boominathan, L., Anti-cancer stem cell therapy: AMP-Activated Protein Kinase α 2 (AMPKα2) decreases the expression of oncomiR-17-92 and increases the expression of tumor suppressor PTEN via up regulation of its target gene, 28/March/2015, 9.57 am, Genome-2-Bio-Medicine Discovery center (GBMD), http://genomediscovery.org
Significance: The study presented here suggests that AMPKα2, by increasing the expression of its target genes, it may decrease the expression of oncomiR-17-92 and increase the expression of tumor suppressor PTEN . Thereby, it may inhibit the proliferation of cancer stem cells. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “AMPKα2 activators” may be used to inhibit the proliferation of cancer stem cells enriched in tumor tissues.
