A recent study from the Graduate Institute of Life Sciences, Taipei, Taiwan shows that p53 controls cancer cell invasion by inducing the MDM2-mediated degradation of Slug. This study was published in the 17 May  2009 issue of the journal “Nat Cell Biol.” by Prof Yang PC, Wang SP, and others.

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports that: Anti-metastasis therapy: C/EBPα controls cancer invasion by regulating the levels of metastasis promoter Slug.

Significance: This study shows, for the first time, that C/EBPα, by increasing the expression of its target gene, it may control the levels of metastasis promoter Slug. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “C/EBPα regulators” may be used to inhibit metastatic progression of human cancers.
