A recent study from the Laboratory of Genome Integrity, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland 20892, USA shows that “DNA-damage-induced differentiation of leukaemic cells as an anti-cancer barrier.” This study was published in the 27 July  2014 issue of Nature  by Prof André NussenzweigMargarida A. Santosand others.

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports that:  Differentiation therapy for Human Leukaemia: Curcumin, the major component of turmeric, functions as an anti-cancer barrier by promoting differentiation of leukaemic cells via up regulation of Histone methyl-transferase MLL4. By treating myeloid leukaemic cells with Curcumin, one may promote differentiation of leukaemic cells. Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations encompassinCurcumin or its analogues” may be used to treat human leukaemia.
