Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that MiRNA-153 may increase the expression of longevity-promoting gene product Sirtuin-1. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “MiRNA-153 activator” may be used to (1) promote insulin sensitivity; (2) decrease ageing process; and (3) increase the life expectancy of an individual.
