Significance:  Prolonged physical/mental/emotional/environmental stress can induce ACTH. This in turn can induce its downstream target genes.  This study suggests, for the first time, that stress responsive protein ACTH, by decreasing its downstream target gene, it may decrease the expression of an activator of insulin transcription, NeuroD1.  This data suggests that “ACTH inhibitors” may be used to treat stress-induced T2D.
