  • A study from the Department of Pharmacology, Rush University Medical Center, Rush University, Chicago, IL, USA has reported that “MicroRNA expression profile and functional analysis reveal that miR-382 is a critical novel gene of alcohol addiction
  • This study was published in the 05 September 2013 EMBO Molecular Medicine by Prof. Zhang C, Dr. Li Jand others from the Department of Pharmacology, Rush University Medical Center, Rush University, Chicago, IL, USA.
  • On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports here that:  Treating alcoholism with HIF-1α activators: HIF-1α suppresses the expression of  DRD1 via up regulation of its target gene. This study suggests that HIF-1αby increasing the expression of its target gene, it could inhibit voluntary intake of alcohol and alcohol addiction.  Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations containing “ HIF-1α  or HIF-1α activating small molecules” can be used to treat alcohol addiction
