Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that massage (moderate pressure–pressure receptor-mechanotransduction), by increasing the expression of its target gene, it may down regulate the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Given this, physicians may consider encouraging stressed patients to undergo massage therapy.
