Nobel laureate in Physiology/Medicine (1975), Prof. David BCalifornia Institute of Technology (Caltec), California, USA, has highlighted the role of miRNA-125 in health and disease in a number of research papers.

Prof. Dash CC, Dr Mantri CK and co-workers from the Laboratory of Retrovirology and Epigenetics, Center For AIDS Health Disparities Research, Vanderbilt-Meharry Center for AIDS Research, Department of Biochemistry and Cancer Biology, Meharry Medical College, Nashville, TN, USA have reported recently in the journal  PLoS One (Dec 12, 2012) that Cocaine enhances HIV-1 replication in CD4+ T cells by down-regulating MiR-125b.

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports that: Mechanistic and Therapeutic Insights into insulin resistance, senescence, ageing and longevity: Cocaine increases the expression of reprogramming protein Lin-28A via down regulation of its target gene.  This data suggests that Cocaine may function as a therapeutic agent in a number of disease conditions, including insulin resistance, glucose intolerance,  ageing.
