Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that MiRNA-96, by decreasing the expression of its target gene, it may: (1) decrease the expression of gluconeogenesis genes, such as PEPCK and G6Pase; (2) reduce hepatic glucose production; (3) improve insulin sensitivity; and (4) mimick the effects of exercise. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “MiRNA-96 activators” may be used to inhibit insulin resistance and treat T2DM.

Undisclosed information: How MiRNA-96 mimicks the effects of exercise and promotes insulin sensitivity
