Significance: It has been shown that PAPP-A knock-out mice’re resistant to atherosclerotic lesion development; and metabolic dysfunction. This study suggests, for the first time, that MiRNA-490-3p , by decreasing the expression of its target gene, it may suppress the expression of PAPP-A. And, thereby, it may inhibit: (1) atherosclerotic lesion development; and (2) metabolic dysfunction. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “MiRNA-490-3p activators“ may be used to extend the life-span of an individual.
