Significance: MiRNA-222, by down regulating the expression of its target gene, it may promote miRNA biogenesis. Thereby, it may inhibit cancer development. Together, this study suggests, for the first time, that (1) MiRNA-222 may augment the production of small RNAs; and (2) pharmacological formulations encompassing “MiRNA-222 or its activators” may inhibit cancer development by turning on the expression of tumor suppressor miRNAs.
