A study from the Department of Pharmacology, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas 75390, USA has reported that “miR-34a blocks osteoporosis and bone metastasis by inhibiting osteoclastogenesis and Tgif2.”

This study was published in the June 25, 2014 Nature  [I.F >35] by Prof. Wan Y, Krzeszinski and others from  the Department of Pharmacology, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas 75390, USA.

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports here that: Molecular and Therapeutic insights into Osteoclastogenesis and its associated disorders: Tumor suppressor ING1b inhibits osteoporosis and bone metastasis.  This study may suggest that ING1b, by up regulating its target gene, it may suppress the expression of Tgif2. Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations encompassing “ING1b activators” can be used to inhibit osteoporosis and bone metastasis.
