A recent study from the Key Laboratory of Arrhythmias of the Ministry of Education of China, East Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine, Shanghai 200120, China shows that “SNX13 reduction mediates heart failure through degradative sorting of apoptosis repressor with caspase recruitment domain.” This study was published in the 8 October issue of 2014 Online journal “Nature Communications” by Prof Chen YH, Li J, and others.
On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan PhD, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMD, reports that: Molecular therapy against Stress-induced heart failure: C-Myc protects against stress-induced heart failure via up regulation of SNX13.
Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that C-Myc, by decreasing the expression of its target genes, it may increase the expression of Sorting nexin-13 (SNX13). Thereby, it may inhibit activation of apoptotic pathways, while activating survival pathways in cardiac cells. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “C-Myc activators“ may be used to treat myocardial disorders, including myocardial infarction.
