Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that Argonaute-2 (Ago-2), by decreasing the expression of its target gene, it may increase human beta-cell proliferation and insulin sensitivity. Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations encompassing “Argonaute-2 activators” may be used to treat metabolic disorders, including DM and cardiac diseases.
