Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that Agaricus blazei Murill, by decreasing the expression of its target gene, it may suppress the expression of stem cell protein Oct-4 and increase the expression of tumor suppressor genes. Given that most of the human cancers relapse after chemotherapy because of the presence of cancer stem cells, this study suggests a therapeutic strategy as to how cancer stem cells can be eliminated from tumors.  Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Agaricus blazei Murill or small molecule compounds isolated from Agaricus blazei Murill”  may be used to inhibit the progression of human tumors
