Significance: It has been shown earlier that angiotensin II type I receptor (AT1R) antagonist prolongs mammalian life span. This study suggests, for the first time, that Icariin, by increasing the expression of its target gene, it may suppress the expression of AT1R. And thereby, it may (1) decrease blood pressure; and (2) and extend the lifespan of an individual. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Icariin or its analogues” may be used to extend the life-span of an individual.
Undisclosed information: How Icariin suppresses the expression of angiotensin II type I receptor (AT1R)
