Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that Genistein, by increasing the expression of its target gene, may decrease the expression of lipogenic genes. Thereby, it may prevent ectopic lipid accumulation in muscle progenitor cells and mature muscles. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Genistein or its analogues“ may be used to decrease muscle lipid levels.
