Citation: Boominathan, Treating Metastatic tumors with Fish oil: DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid), the bio-active fish oil component, suppresses the expression of PD-1, a suppressor of activation of T-cells, and activates the immune system via down regulation of its target gene, 22/February/2015, 23.00, Genome-2-Bio-Medicine Discovery center (GBMD), http://genomediscovery.org
Significance: It has recently been shown that blocking PD-1 with antibodies, one could make tumors shrink. This study suggests, for the first time, that DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid), the bio-active fish oil component, by suppressing the expression of its target gene, it may decrease the expression of PD-1. Thereby, it may activate the immune system to inhibit tumor progression. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “Docosahexaenoic acid or its analogues“ may be used to inhibit the progression of tumors.
