Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that Cucurbitacin I, by increasing the expression of its target gene, it may decrease visceral pain in patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing ” Cucurbitacin I or its analogues  may be used to treat visceral pain.
