Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that α-lipoic acid, by increasing the expression of its target gene, it may inhibit the inflammasome activation pathway. Thereby, it may decrease renal inflammation. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “α-lipoic acid or its analogues” may be used to treat renal inflammatory disease.
