Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that L1CAM, by decreasing the expression of its target gene, it may increase insulin-secreting cell mass and functionThereby, it may increase the insulin sensitivity of cellular tissues.  Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “L1CAM activators”  can be used to treat DM.

Undisclosed information: How L1CAM  increases insulin-secreting cell mass and function.
