Significance: This study suggests, for the first time, that ING1b, by increasing the expression of its target gene, it may inhibit the functional inactivation of p53 by somatic mutation and viral oncognes. Thereby, it may safeguard the function of the guardian of the genome, p53. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “ING1b or its activators”  may be used to inhibit the development of human tumors
