A study from the Department of Cell & Molecular Biology, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Santiago, Chile; and Biological-Chemistry Sciences Department, Universidad Bernardo O’Higgins, Santiago, Chile shows that  “c-Abl Stabilizes HDAC2 Levels … Neuronal Gene Expression in Alzheimer’s Disease.”

This study was published in the Journal Molecular Cell (9 September, 2014) by Prof. Alvarez ARGonzalez-Zuñiga M [I.F ~ 15.324] and others from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Santiago, Chile; and Biological and Chemistry Sciences Department, Universidad Bernardo O’Higgins, Santiago, Chile.

On the foundation of this interesting finding, Dr L Boominathan, Director-cum-chief Scientist of GBMDreports here that: Reversing Alzheimer’s Disease with an Anti-cancer drug: Campothecin (CPT) decreases HDAC2 levels and increases the expression of synaptic genes via up regulation of its target gene.  This study may suggest that Campothecin, by up regulating its target gene, it may induce the expression of synaptic genes. Thereby, it may inhibit the progression of alzheimer’s disease. Together, this study suggests that pharmacological formulations encompassing “Campothecin (CPT) or its analogues may be used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
