Significance: It has been shown earlier that knocking down ADCY5/AC5 protects against diet-induced weight gain and insulin resistance. This study suggests, for the first time, that Cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1, by increasing the expression of its target gene,  it may suppress the expression of ADCY5/AC5. Thereby, it may (1) promote insulin sensitivity; (2) prevent diet-induced weight gain; (3) and extend the lifespan of an individual. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing Cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1 activators (that suppress the expression of ADCY5/AC5) may be used to extend the life-span of an an individual.

Undisclosed information: How Cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1) suppresses the expression of  adenylate cyclase 5 (ADCY5)
