Significance: It has been shown earlier that angiotensin II type I receptor (AT1R) antagonist prolongs mammalian life span. This study suggests, for the first time, that 17β-E2, by increasing the expression of its target gene, it may suppress the expression of AT1R. And thereby, it may (1) decrease blood pressure; and (2) and extend the lifespan of an individual. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing ” 17β-E2 or its analogues” may be used to extend the life-span of an individual.
