Significance: Sildenafil is used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension. It has been shown earlier that angiotensin II type I receptor (AT1R) antagonists prolong mammalian life span. This study suggests, for the first time, that Sildenafil, by increasing the expression of its target gene,  it may suppress the expression of AT1R. And, thereby, it may (1) decrease blood pressure; and (2) extend the lifespan of an individual. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing Sildenafil  or its analogues may be used to extend the life-span of an individual.
