Significance:
Although IAPP has been shown to induce regression of p53-deficient tumours in vivo, the mechanistic basis of which remains unclear. This study suggests, for the first time, that IAPP (Amylin), by increasing the expression of its target gene, it may increase the expression of tumor suppressor PTEN. Thereby, it may induce regression of p53-mutated human tumors. Thus, pharmacological formulations encompassing “IAPP or its analogues“ can be used to inhibit the progression of p53-deficient human tumors.
